Project Lectures on the theories of the Austrian School of Economics

Introduction

Today’s world is facing totally new challenges and threats; for example, climate change, the pandemic, the return of wars, nationalism, and imperialism.

As a result of the new threats and challenges we are facing, the time has come to change the direction of the wheel with the return of borders, interventionism, and state involvement in economics.

In the last decade, we have seen central bank policies like zero percent, negative interest rates, quantitative easing, and the overheating of the economy. These are the result of unprecedented monetary policies by central banks in the West, unseen public support to help societies and economies facing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the surge in transitory or structural inflation, including the consequences of the war in Ukraine.

Isn’t it the time to come back to the “Classical-liberal Perspectives” needed to bring stability, reliability, and accountability?

The Goals

The goal of these lectures is to teach participants on the theories of the Austrian School of Economics, as they are rather unknown to most people in the European Union and beyond. Also, these lectures are intended to demonstrate the advantages of a “Classical-Liberal Perspective” with stable and sound financial markets acting in favor of a real economy and avoiding bankruptcy, failure, and social-political turmoil.

The Topics

Several topics will be discussed to promote the theories of the Austrian School of Economics as well as the benefits of liberal policies that can bring about change to society by implementing sound and stable economic principles. For 2024, the following events have been planned:

~ “Austrian Economics: An Overview and Defense of its Relevance”

~ “Austrian Economics: ‘Stimulating the Economy is Counterproductive and Creates Tensions.'”

~ “Javier Milei: The New President of Argentina and the Consequences of the Austrian School of Economics”

~ “The Gold Standard and Sound Money”

Plus Many More. . .

The Content Format and Location

The lectures will be given at the premises of Holland House in Brussels, Belgium by different speakers and teachers.

The Targeted Audience

The targeted audience includes, but is not limited to, the following:
~ Representatives of the financial world, policy makers, civil society organizations, politicians, journalists, and banking experts, including those involved with hedge-funds and pension funds

~ The public at large, especially students and professionals who are critical of the ongoing socio-economic developments and who are interested in an alternative view based on the sound economic theories from the Austrian School of Economics

Strategy and Schedule

~ The first lecture took place on November 7, 2023. It was titled “A lecture on Austrian Economics: An Overview and Defense of its Relevance. The speaker was Bart Vanderhaegen.

Project Communication

After each event, project communication will follow by the posting of a report, a video, or a case study on the following distribution channels:

  • The website of the Ludwig von Mises Institute-Europe and the websites of the Insitute’s partners
  • The Institute’s social media platforms
  • Native advertising and promoting through external websites
  • LinkedIn
  • Others

Project Governance

This project will be headed by Mrs. Godart-van der Kroon, the President of the Ludwig Von Mises Institute-Europe and a member of the Institute.

Methodology

The Ludwig Von Mises Institute-Europe hopes to organize a lecture once every three months at Holland House in Brussels, Belgium.

Project Means

The Ludwig Von Mises Institute-Europe has already provided, and will continue to provide, the funding for the project. This includes the office costs and the staff costs, but despite this, it is necessary to look for additional and complimentary ways to help finance the project, providing for costs such as paying the speakers, travel costs, renting the rooms, unexpected costs and the costs of human capital.

The Ludwig Von Mises Institute-Europe

The expertise of the Ludwig Von Mises Institute-Europe includes more than 20 years of experience! It has organized 33 conferences in the European Parliament, including the Mises Circles, and far more outside of Parliament. The Institute has published several books, two of which have been published by Springer Verlag, Germany, a world-wide and well-known publisher. Both of these books were well received. Our members include financiers, academics, think tank analysts, and politicians, and we therefore bring together the best of both (all) worlds when it comes to these matters. The Insititute is not just theoretical, but in fact, it has vast expertise, which means that the result of this research project will be far better than, for instance, those only treated and discussed by academics. Furthermore, the Insitute currently has 2,100 followers on Facebook and 1,781 followers on LinkedIn.

The above information has been supplied and supported by Mrs. Annette Godart-van der Kroon, the Founder and President of the Ludwig Von Mises Institute-Europe.
